The VDI (Verein Deutscher Ingenieure - Association of German Engineers) is one of the biggest European technical scientific associations. It includes 135.000 members, 20 % of them are young engineers and students. It is regarded to be the engineers' and engineering's spokesman as well as the leading institution for training and exchange of experiences among skilled employees and managers. The VDI is a non-profit organization and independent from economic interests and political affiliations. It appears for all questions that engineers and students face in their professional or public life.

The objective of the VDI's work is the transfer of technical knowledge as a service for engineers and natural scientists in employment and for technical and scientific students, for enterprises, for the state and for the public.
