Robotics
The scientific sector,
which deals with the construction of robots is called robotics.
The term was mentioned
first in Isaac Asimov’s book “Runaround” in 1942.
There is no general
scientific research sector for robots, since robotics is a combination of
mechanical and electrical engineering, mechatronics and software engineering.
The task of robotics is the
controlling and development of robots. Its target is to control the
collaboration between the robot
electronics and its mechanical parts by programming them.
Robotics includes parts of
the software engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering. Thus, these
three branches shaped a new sector: Mechatronics.
According to the VDI-directive 2206, mechatronics is a synergetic cooperation between the three branches of mechanical and electrical engineering, and software engineering for the designing and manufacturing of industrial products as well as for process shaping.
